I admit that this has been on my mind for a couple years now, but my recent time backpacking in the Trinity Alps has solidified the sentiment—I want to go on a long thru-hike. Not just a weekend, not just a handful of days, I want to spend weeks on the trail—possibly months. I want to experience it all—the good and the bad, the pleasure and the pain. Living in California, the John Muir Trail has definitely caught my attention, and that seems like a good place to dip my toes in the water, so to speak. But I’m not going to lie, the Pacific Crest Trail has been calling my name big time… and then there’s the Appalachian Trail… and the Continental Divide Trail… but I may be getting ahead of myself—one thing at a time. Have you ever done something like this? If so, what was your experience? I’d love to hear about it.

"Beyond the very extreme of fatigue and distress, we may find amounts of ease and power we never dreamed ourselves to own; sources of strength never taxed at all because we never pushed through the obstruction."

-William James
