Optimism is a Blessing

Some people have been so badly beaten down by the past that they can’t help but dread the future. Which is perfectly logical; if you’re constantly getting stung, it’s natural to expect more stings.

The fact that I can’t relate to this tells me how fortunate I have been. Life has been so good to me that I’m left with a sense of optimism instead of dread. If I get stung, I just figure it was bound to happen eventually but likely won’t happen again anytime soon.

As I look back on my life up until this point, sure, some chapters were difficult. But most were not. And none were awful. In fact, I’ve had such a wonderful life that even the challenging chapters have a sense of adventure to them. Like, “Oooo, plot twist! I can’t wait to see where this goes.”

I don’t know if I’m just naturally an optimist, or have simply learned to be optimistic through the blessings in my life. But my experience is that the difficult chapters always lead to better ones. And, ironically, so do the good ones.

I’ve come to realize that optimism is a blessing.

A blessing I’m grateful to have a hope to spread to others.

"I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can't make it through one door, I'll go through another door - or I'll make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present." -Rabindranath Tagore

BONUS: I recently listened to an amazing conversation between the great Simon Sinek and Chris Williamson on the ‘Modern Wisdom’ podcast. I highly recommend giving it a listen, in fact I’m going to listen to it again today. If you’d like to check it out, just click the link below or search for it on your favorite podcast player. Enjoy!
