Somewhere Along Hwy. 50 in Nevada.
Road Trippin'
I’m typing this on my phone at a campsite in Colorado, next to a full and flowing creek, with the early morning sun warming my face. Hot, steaming (decaf) coffee to my right and Rosie sleeping (in the dirt) to my left.
I’m happy to say that my trip has been fantastic so far. And apart from a few hiccups, I’ve been very fortunate with how things have gone.
The first hiccup caused an early itinerary shuffle, as I had planned to visit Great Basin National Park right off the bat, but when I arrived it was stormy and unpleasant, so I kept driving, knowing I could try again on my way home.
Since then I’ve had the honor of visiting Capitol Reef National Park, Goblin Valley State Park, Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, Arches National Park, Colorado National Monument and (currently) Rifle Falls State Park. Not bad for just over a week!
I’ll stay in Colorado for a while to visit family and explore, but afterwards I’ll make my way back down through southeastern Utah before dipping into Arizona for a week or two. After Arizona I plan to curve back up through southwestern Utah on my way to eastern Nevada, where I’ll hopefully have better luck with Great Basin National Park.
That’s the plan at least. So far very little of what I’ve done matched my initial plan, and I fully expect that to happen again. I welcome it, in fact.
