Paragliders in Sedona, Arizona.
Flying High
This photo was taken the day I arrived in Sedona during my recent road trip. One of the friends I was visiting paraglides in his free time, and within 30 minutes of me arriving I was gently notified that the conditions were ideal and that he’d be heading up the mountain to fly with some other guys. He asked if me and my camera would like to join.
Uhhh, yes please.
So he, his girlfriend and I loaded into his truck and headed up the mountain to meet the rest of the crew.
I had never been this close to paragliders before, and it was really fun observing their process; how they would go through their safety checks, prepare everything for takeoff and then wait for ideal wind conditions—one moment the wind could be too intense or non-existent, the next it could be perfect. Sure enough, one by one they found their opportunity to launch, and before long every one of them was flying high in the sky.
Paragliding aside, it was the perfect sort of night to be on top of a mountain. Yes, I’m sure the view was better from above, but I was more than happy back on land. The sunset began to cast its warm glow across the landscape and I was snapping photos furiously. After all, it’s not every day I get to photograph a beautiful sunset with paragliders in the background!
Safe to say it was a wonderful first night in Sedona.
