Higher Elevation

Well, it took longer than expected to receive the results, but I just got off the phone with my doctor and she was happy to share that my echocardiogram showed that I am the owner of a strong and healthy heart. Which, as I’ve shared previously, is what I expected to hear, but it’s still a relief to receive the official confirmation.

However, the saga isn’t quite over, as my doctor wasn’t thrilled to learn that I’ve continued experiencing mild dizziness on occasion. Think: lightheadedness, not vertigo. So, just to be certain that we’re not missing anything, I’ll soon begin wearing a non-invasive heart monitor. This should provide an even more in-depth understanding of how my heart is functioning, specifically with how it relates (or doesn’t) to my occasional bouts of lightheadedness. As with the echocardiogram, I expect the heart monitor to show that my heart is operating as intended and is more than capable of handling the various hiking, biking and snowboarding type stresses that I plan on putting it through. But once again, I’ll be eagerly awaiting the confirmation once the monitoring period is complete.

It’s odd, because I never would have guessed that I’d be going through all kinds of heart tests at age 39, but I’m actually glad it’s being done, as I’m finding it comforting to know how I’m doing medically. By the end of this, assuming I continue to receive positive news, I imagine I’ll be feeling bulletproof (at least in matters of the heart).

On that note, my heart and I are off to higher elevation to do some snowboarding. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that, those of you that were impacted by these recent storms, got through it all unscathed.
