Intentional Drift
Last week I left you with a cliffhanger, describing a huge change in my life without offering any details. What I appreciated so much is the amount of people that reached out showing support and belief in me without even knowing what changes I’m making—your blind confidence gave me confidence. I won’t let you down.
While there are many changes coming up, a big one is that I decided to quit my job of nearly 16 years. I was 22 years old when I started working at the winery, meaning this job has been a part of my entire adult life. It has improved me and my circumstances in so many ways—professionally, socially and financially—and I will be forever grateful for the impact it has had on my life. It has been an anchor for me as I learned about life and grew as a person, and it provided stability while the world around me changed. But, for many reasons, I felt it was time for me to say goodbye.
When I share this with people, most assume that I already lined up another job before quitting, but I didn’t. My plan, since I know you’re wondering, is to take a bunch of time off to relax, spend time with family, travel and dive deeper into my hobbies. I am excited to read and write more, to spend more time on my photography projects, to pick up the guitar again, to hike and camp and backpack, to practice yoga and meditate and to dedicate more time to my financial coaching business.
All-in-all, I want to spend more time on myself and the things I love—and to launch myself into the world, with its immense opportunities, and see where I end up. I’m open to just about anything and I’m excited to see what I find now that I’m hoisting the anchor and intentionally allowing myself to drift into the unknown. I am certain that, while scary in many ways, my decision to leave my job will create space for even bigger changes… which are already in motion…
"If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness, and creativity."
