Travel Troubles
Even though I’m an avid traveler and there are countless places and people I’m dying to visit, I often have trouble committing to trips. I’ll sometimes have an adventure planned out in my head for years before I ever put those plans into action.
It’s not that I don’t want to take that trip or see that person—I do—but for whatever reason I keep putting it off.
I’m sure it’s a combination of: assuming I’ll always have time to do it later, trips admittedly being a hassle to plan, me being a routine-thriving homebody, and there being so many places I want to visit that I get overwhelmed with the options and end up choosing none.
Regardless of the reasons, over time I started getting sick of witnessing myself not follow-through on things I want to do. I know that life is short and opportunities are limited (and here I am squandering them).
Most importantly, I want to be the type of person that does what they say they're going to do—even if it’s just to myself.
Especially if it’s just to myself.
So I began focusing on improving, and "discovered" a really simple tactic that has helped tremendously.
Promise not to laugh?
The tactic is…
Adding it to my calendar.
I know, it sounds so obvious.
But it has helped a ton.
Similar to how writing down goals has shown to make achieving that goal more likely, I assume the same effect is taking place with my travel plans. By simply adding it to my calendar that trip becomes more than just an idea—it becomes even the tiniest bit real.
I recently used this tactic and started turning an idea into reality while planning out my upcoming adventure. Stay tuned for details!
